Five ways to land a job you love!

How important is it to work in a job you love? We think it’s essential! To help you find your next dream role, we’ve put together five ways to ensure your next opportunity ticks all your boxes and proves the right one for you!

Research the brand

Whether you’re applying to work as a personal assistant to the CEO of a luxury retail brand or to work as a business assistant in the real estate industry, do your research first. A quick search online will reveal information about their company values, ethics and mission statement. Ask around to find out about the employer brand and company culture before you any decisions. Remember, it’s also super important that these elements align with your own personal values!

Know your ideal job description

Before beginning your job search, make sure you are clear on what that role will actually entail. Working as a personal assistant for a very busy HNWI may seem glamorous at first glance, but remember that these kind of roles can call for long hours alongside a very particular and strict service. Make sure you look at the responsibilities of the role and ask yourself honestly, “would I enjoy the work?”

Think about career progression

It’s a good idea to have some understanding of how you want your career to progress and whether these opportunities are available/likely to arise at the company you would apply for. Indications of progression might include the company size, their growth plans, how long existing staff have been in their roles and the employee hierarchy. If the company is growing, it could be a good indication that you can progress with the expansion.

Ask questions at the interview

Once you’ve applied for the role and secured the interview, it’s your opportunity to ask about any specifics that you were unable to find in your initial research. Think about aspects like opportunities within the company, how they deal with customer service and if they support any training and development. Remember, an interview isn’t just an opportunity for the interviewer to ask you all questions! You need to ensure this is the right company for you so it’s just as important for to find these things out! A good question to ask your interviewer is what they like about working at the establishment as it will give you a good indication of the culture.

Use a specialist recruitment agency

If you register with a recruitment agency that specialises in administrative roles, your consultant’s job is to find roles that will suit your skills, career aspirations and personality fit. It’s a great way to ensure that you’re interviewing for roles you’re likely to fall in love with on your first day – and never look back!
