Summer Party 2018

Penny Hill Park pool

A wonderful day of team building, baking and bonding (and a little champagne)!

It was an early start for the Bain and Gray team on Tuesday morning. Having beaten the usual early morning rush hour on the tube, we set off for a day of team building and activities at Penny Hill Park, and what a day for it!

We were greeted at Penny Hill Park, by the wonderful Brad (who is usually roped in to carry out our team training days, given the previous success) and our wonderful events coordinator Jess. First activity on the list was indulging in the wonderful breakfast spread to fuel ourselves for ‘Search for the Gold of the Desert Kings’. This was a relatively complex, but light-hearted team building exercise in which three teams raced against each other to complete a journey across the desert. Pre-planning supplies and noting weather patterns were all things to take into consideration before the challenge. The strategy, execution and end result were all very relatable to any business organisation. We reviewed our process and tied this in to the way that we approach our work. We continued the morning with team building exercises before enjoying a picnic in the sun.

We lay out on the banks around the swimming pool, enjoying our picnic baskets and soaking up the sun. There was a good buzz about the place with lots of groups enjoying the spa and hotel facilities.

After lunch, we continued to expose our inner competitiveness through the next challenge – ‘Ready steady bake’. Here the red team and the green team managed to bake; savoury scones, fairy cakes, mille-feuille and champagne truffles. After a tough judging panel, the red team were declared the winners (with a slight advantage of having a number of ‘chefs’ on their team’).

Finally, it was time to relax! The last of the afternoon was spent around the pool, relaxing and enjoying the spa facilities, before going up to the Terrace to enjoy some champagne cocktails and canapes. It was a tranquil scene around the terrace, bar the odd cheer coming from the World Cup results inside. It was the perfect day out of the office, and we were all rather reluctant to get in the car and head back to London.
