Improve your self confidence

Improving your self-confidence and believing in yourself depends on how you perceive yourself. Unlocking your confidence is a process of knowing your strengths and qualities.

Decide what makes you happy and what you value in life. Challenge unkind thoughts you might have with yourself. Negative self-talk hurts your confidence and impacts how others perceive you. While it might seem innocent and healthy to laugh at yourself, it hurts your confidence. Instead of downplaying your intelligence or contributions, present your ideas and actions without questioning your worth.

Exercise can make you feel more comfortable with yourself, increase your self-confidence and improve mental health too. Talk to a counsellor and learn self-management strategies that can help build confidence and self-esteem.

Practice positive affirmations each day to get into a positive mindset. Focus on your strengths and don’t compare yourself with others. Take a rest from social media, people show what they want you to see and this creates a distorted view. Accept compliments and if you feel comfortable ask family or a friend what they like about you. They may recognise things that you don't think about yourself. Use these positives when you’re feeling low or doubting yourself.

Talk to someone you trust. Having someone listen to you and show they care can help.

Focus on positive relationships., it can help to spend more time with people who make you feel good.

If you’re usually quiet during meetings make it your goal to share one comment, or question during each meeting you go to. Start with a smaller meeting, like a team or department meeting where you already know everyone, and work your way up to larger meetings.

Find someone new to connect with. Confident employees tend to be outgoing and active within their workplace. Building a rapport with the people you work with can help put you at ease and increase your confidence.

Self-confidence means trusting in your own capabilities, valuing yourself and feeling worthy. Be nice to yourself because you’re great!
